About The Project

For anyone interested in the thought process behind all this, besides being “How crazy are you!?”, I thought I’d give you a good, broad idea of why I made the choices that I made.

  • First, I worked on understanding the Super Mario Bros. and Sonic the Hedgehog canon, or, more importantly, the canon that is most -broadly- understood. That is, I researched the general understanding of how these characters and their universes are mostly viewed by the public at large. So, I looked at all the games, comics, and TV shows I could. Given that there’s so much information out there, a lot of it unconnected, I then looked at Wikipedia, which, again, I must stress, gives a BROAD understanding of how to see these characters. This means that if you’re a diehard, follower-to-the-letter comic book fan, there will be a lot of things that you don’t like or agree with, since your detailed understanding may not reflect the concepts that are more understood by the general public.
  • The first point is important, since it leads into my second and third. This comic is designed for a multi-demographic audience; it is written to appeal to the as many people as possible. Although video gamers and young adults would be my target audience, I wrote this to hopefully garnerĀ  views from people of all sorts of race, ages, sexes, etc. Die-hard canon information will turn off those people who never even HEARD of Sonic or Mario (yes, they do exist.) So, again, it’s important to focus on the broader understandings.
  • Thirdly, since this is dealing with a large scaled crossover, some things won’t quite work, and some things had to be slightly changed or manipulated so things could work. Aside from the loosely designed Adventure mode in Super Smash Brothers Brawl, and the fun-but-unexplained crossover in Mario and Sonic at the Olympics, there is no existent canon that explains this. So I tried my own hand at making one.
  • That all being said, I tried VERY hard to keep to the already-established canons that do exist for Mario and Sonic, respectively. Unlike, say, certain movies that were released in the early 90s, I made sure to follow closely to the games/comics/TV shows that currently exist.
  • I hope you enjoy!

So there you have it, I hope that makes sense. If I get more questions or comments, I’ll make a FAQs page that will hopefully explain things in more detail.
